About Bankstown City campus
Western Sydney University is extending the vertical campus concept to the Bankstown CBD, creating a new campus by 2022. The new campus will be tailored to community needs and boost collaborative research with local firms.
The campus will have a ‘Factory of the Future’ – an advanced manufacturing innovation space modelled on a ‘maker space’ – encouraging collaboration between designers, engineers, project developers and managers from local SMEs. Enterprises will work in partnership with students and research staff.
Education and research with impact
At the Bankstown City Campus, Western is taking a precinct approach and working closely with local councils and the NSW Government.
Our themes are:
- Health, Aging and Healthy Living
- Advanced Manufacturing with a Small and Medium Enterprise focus
- Education
A multi-disciplinary curriculum will be the foundation for integrated research and teaching in collaboration with industry, the community and government and NGO partners. The campus will also have a Smart Education Hub with cross-disciplinary education and research facilities including:
- a ‘smart’ classroom with an observation control room
- psychology group, individual and infant testing rooms with equipment for eye tracking, behavioural interactions and to track and record brain wave patterns.

The new campus will be highly accessible by public transport, including train, buses, and the future planned Bankstown Metro station – a major benefit to the student and staff community.
Courses to be offered at the new Bankstown City campus include education, social sciences, business, and health, as well as its pathway programs and foundation studies offered by the University’s The College. The University is regularly communicating with students and staff about the new Bankstown City campus and the proposed transition from Milperra. No course will be discontinued as a result of the move.
In 2018 the NSW Government released the most recent Greater Sydney Regional Plan which reaffirmed Bankstown as a priority health and education precinct. The University’s presence in the heart of Bankstown CBD will have a transformative impact on the city and its people.
Planning for the Bankstown City campus is still in the early stages, and there will be opportunities through the planning process for the community to provide feedback on the development.
